Nuremberg. 26/08/2022. An automated high-bay warehouse, photovoltaic systems and storage capacities for all temperature ranges: Nagel-Group has started the expansion of the Nuremberg site to become a multi-temp facility. Around 10,500 square metres of logistics space are being added to the almost 60,000 square metres already provided by the Nuremberg-Feucht industrial estate directly on the A6 motorway. The symbolic groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, 25 August 2022 marked the start of construction.
“In future, we will be able to store around 27,000 pallets here at temperatures as low as minus 24 degrees Celsius,” says Stephan Speckner, branch manager of Nagel-Group in Nuremberg. The extension also offers space for further logistical services such as packaging and order picking on another 2,200 square metres. “An important hub for food logistics in all temperature ranges is being created in Nuremberg with our fresh produce area and our transshipment warehouse. We can ship our customers’ dairy products, sweets and meat and sausage products all over Germany and Europe from here,” says Speckner.
The Nuremberg expansion is part of the largest modernisation initiatives in the company’s history. “We are investing massively in our network of locations,” says André Pleines, Executive Director Real Estate at Nagel-Group. “We will be investing 800 million to 1 billion euros over the next 10 years to modernise the company, in building projects as well as in IT infrastructure and operating equipment.” €60 million will be made available to expand the Nuremberg location. Completion is scheduled for Autumn 2023.
The multi-temp facility in Nuremberg will be fitted with state-of-the-art cooling technology, says André Pleines. “Our new buildings are designed to be as energy-efficient and resource-saving as possible.” As well as expanding storage capacities, a large truck workshop for the region is being built, together with a multi-storey car park with 208 parking spaces. “We are installing eight charging points for e-vehicles here, and all new parts of the building will have photovoltaic systems,” says André Pleines. The electricity generated is consumed directly on site. “Our energy consumption is large, so sustainability is especially significant in our building projects.” The Nuremberg buildings will have modern insulation. A cooling system with low refrigerant use and intensive heat recovery will also be installed.
