In 2012, the Nagel family decided to acquire an old Büssing truck from 1939 in memory of the founding years.Unfortunately, the Büssing was in poor general condition and therefore needed to be completely restored. “I am glad that I was able to win Mr Teuber for the project! The Büssing now shines in new glory,” says Tobias Nagel, shareholder of Nagel-Group.
“It was intended to look like one of the first Nagel vehicles,” says Teuber. And so Christian Teuber and his colleague Viktor Ens began restoring the Büssing. There are no standardised instructions or anything similar for restoring a classic car. To learn how to restore a classic car, you need a lot of general automotive knowledge, manual and mechanical skills and, to a certain extent, creative qualities. The very characteristics that make Christian Teuber stand out!
Starting with old technical drawings, original spare parts and specialists for the manufacture or machining of individual vehicle parts. Everything came together one piece at a time.
After three years of restoration, the finished vehicle could be presented. An old and rusty flatbed truck had been turned into a shiny new thermal truck, just like in the founding years.
“I didn’t know what to expect,” says Christian Teuber. “I met a lot of great people and experienced a lot of support. An experience I would not want to miss”.
The experience gained was used to subsequently restore two matching trailers. Now the truck and trailer combination can be admired in the History Lounge. The vehicle is often presented at company events to commemorate the origins of Nagel-Group.
A special project: “Every vehicle has a story to tell”
“The first test drive on the company premises was spectacular! No power steering and intermediate clutching require a lot of strength and attention when steering the vehicle,” Teuber recalls.
Since his youth, 53-year-old Christian Teuber has been associated with Nagel-Group.He went on his first tours with his father, who worked as a driver for Nagel-Group for many years. From childhood onwards, his passion for trucks grew.
Christian Teuber has now been working for Nagel-Group for more than twelve years.
In 2008, he joined Nagel-Group in Versmold as a trained body and vehicle builder in the fleet management department. His main tasks include assessing damage and placing orders for repairs.”I work very closely with my colleagues in the body shop and the insurance department. With several thousand trailers to look after, the number of repairs is correspondingly high.” Minimising downtime and repair costs is the top priority.
“A vehicle that stands still does not earn money,” is the motto. In addition to his technical knowledge, Christian Teuber can also contribute his experience as a driver, as he holds a Class II driving licence himself. He enjoys the versatility of his tasks and the many contacts with workshops, drivers and branches.
