Regional structure: Martin Nether starts as regional manager south-west

As recently reported, the regionalization concept Germany within the Nagel-Group is progressing successfully. Three regions have already been staffed with a regional manager. After the introduction of Mr. Achim Sinn (Region North-East), we continue the interview series with Mr. Martin Nether, who took over the Region South-West as of 01.06.2023.

Please tell us something about yourself:

I am 52 years old, married and have 3 children – two sons (20 + 17) and a daughter (14, felt 19). Originally I come from Bad Pyrmont in the Weserbergland. After working in Munich, Bremen, Munich again and Birmingham, I have been living with my family near Aschaffenburg for many years.

I completed my professional training as a forwarding agent in Munich at the end of the 1980s. There I not only met my wife, but also did my military service and acquired my truck driver’s license. In addition, I spent some time in long-distance transport (tarpaulin semitrailer and swap body transport) in order to finance my business studies at the DAV in Bremen. After my studies, I moved back to Munich, as my first professional station took me to MUK/Transthermos as assistant to the management.

It continued through various positions as key account manager, sales manager, branch and regional manager, sales director, managing director and board member at companies such as DHL, CCR (including three years as managing director in the UK), Logwin, CHEP and vpool, before I finally worked for several years as an interim manager in the transport and logistics sector with a focus on change management and mergers & acquisitions and was responsible, for example, for the integration of Fenthol & Sandtmann into the Raben Group.

Why did you decide to join the Nagel-Group as Regional Manager? What is your connection to the South-West Region?

I deliberately chose the Nagel-Group because I am attracted by the spirit of optimism and dynamism combined with a long-term strategic orientation for the company. From Aschaffenburg, i.e. the Bavarian side of the Rhine-Main area, the distances to the South-West Region are short and Versmold can also be reached in less than four hours.

What tasks or challenges do you want to devote yourself to first in your new position?

The first thing I want to do is get to know the local people and understand our business in detail. That’s why I’ll be traveling a lot in the coming weeks and months.

What do you place particular emphasis on when it comes to leadership?

For me, leadership means: mutual respect, having a clear vision, remaining authentic, motivating and inspiring my employees.

Communication, collaboration and constructive feedback play a key role here. For me, good leadership also means making decisions and taking responsibility for them and for my team.

How do you spend your free time? Do you have any hobbies that you pursue or clubs in which you are active?

I like to spend my free time with my family, we are all avid mountain bikers and enjoy the flow trails in Spessart, Odenwald and Rhön. When I’m not accompanying the kids to a cross-country or enduro race, I’m involved in the local cycling club as a children’s and youth coach.

Describe in one concise sentence what you stand for or what makes you tick.

Describing yourself is never completely objective, but I see myself as an uncomplicated, approachable, curious, change-ready and loyal person with the necessary portion of humor to endure the seriousness of life.
