Pioneering logistics project: Bürger logistics center offers Nagel-Group 2500m² of handling space

Ditzingen, July 10, 2024 – Increased efficiency in the supply chain, time and CO2 savings: The leasing of a handling area of 2,500 m² in the newly commissioned BÜRGER logistics center takes the long-standing partnership between the two family-owned companies BÜRGER and Nagel-Group to a new level. The BÜRGER logistics center comprises a storage area of 12,000 m² with two high-bay warehouses and a total of 16,000 pallet spaces.

Until 2003, all shipments were loaded from the BÜRGER location in Ditzingen, and from mid-2004, Logistics Center I in Crailsheim was used. In 2018, initial considerations were made to expand the logistics area. Discussions with the Nagel-Group about the positive effects of renting storage and handling space in the planned logistics center followed in 2019. Both companies saw significant potential in a logistics project in a closely adjoining area, which is why BÜRGER planned 2,500 m² of handling space in the new building for the Nagel-Group to rent. The official transport and rental agreement was signed by both parties in August 2023 to intensify the successful partnership.

The cooperation will have numerous positive effects: firstly, loading logistics will improve for goods recipients north of Crailsheim, as the intermediate stop via the network location in Reichenbach will no longer be necessary in future. This will not only save time and a turnaround in the supply chain process, but also minimize the risk of damage and incorrect loading. By eliminating a distance of 1800 kilometers that the Nagel-Group trucks used to travel daily to the network site in Reichenbach, around 1000 tons of CO2 can be saved annually. BÜRGER and Nagel-Group see these CO2 savings as an important building block in their respective sustainability strategies.

Voices on the cooperation:

Thomas Teuchert, Managing Director, BÜRGER: “The Nagel-Group has been a constant companion in my work for the BÜRGER company. In this respect, I am particularly pleased that we have now been able to realize this project at the end of my professional career. I wish us a good start and many years of constructive cooperation.”

Carsten Taucke, CEO, Nagel-Group:“We at Nagel-Group are very pleased to have been able to accompany and support BÜRGER on its successful path for more than three decades. By moving closer together, we are saving shuttle transports to the Nagel branch in Reichenbach, from where we previously fed the BÜRGER products into our Nagel network to distribute them in Germany and Europe. This intermediate step is now no longer necessary, and with it around 1800 kilometers that our trucks used to cover every day. From now on, it will go from here in Crailsheim directly into the Nagel-Network and then to the recipients. This will save us around 1000 tons of CO2 emissions per year.”

All the facts about the new building at a glance

Data on the logistics center:

  • Investment volume: 45 million euros
  • 18 loading ramps
  • 12,000 m² of frozen and refrigerated storage space
  • 16,000 storage spaces: 11,200 storage spaces in the deep-freeze high-bay warehouse and 4,800 storage spaces in the refrigerated high-bay warehouse
  • The Nagel-Group has rented a handling area of 2,500 m² with nine loading bays.
  • The high-bay warehouses in the refrigerated storage area are each 34 m high.
  • Fire protection technology: Both high-bay warehouses are inertized*, the rest of the warehouse is fire-protected with water sprinklers.

*Inertization: The room is enriched with nitrogen so that the oxygen content in the air is reduced to 14.5%, which prevents the fire from developing. The reduced oxygen content corresponds to what you would experience on a mountain hike at an altitude of 6,000 meters.
