Nagel-Group launches pilot project for more efficient driver handling: “Nagel Driver Terminal”
Borgholzhausen, 03.12.2024. Nagel-Group is driving forward the digitalization of its processes and is testing an innovative solution for driver handling in Borgholzhausen: the “Nagel Driver Terminal”. The aim of the project is to simplify the day-to-day work of professional drivers and handling staff alike. The focus is on overcoming language barriers, reducing manual tasks, minimizing waiting times and reducing paperwork.
According to a study by the Cologne Institute for Economic Research, one in four professional drivers in Germany is a foreign national. With almost 133,000 employees, this amounted to 23.6% of all truck drivers in 2020. Specialists from 92 nations even work within Nagel-Group. This diversity brings great opportunities, but also challenges – especially when it comes to communication. The “Nagel Driver Terminal” therefore uses intuitive software that overcomes language barriers and enables independent, fast processing. “With this solution, we are facing up to the challenges of the industry and at the same time creating added value for drivers and our teams on site,” explains Michael Lütjann, CIO of Nagel-Group.
An example from everyday life
The use of the terminal is reminiscent of the self-service terminals that are common in fast food restaurants: Drivers can complete their check-in process independently via a user-friendly interface. The multilingual user interface also ensures smooth communication, even in an international context. A mobile app and the associated terminals ensure a high degree of flexibility for drivers and handling staff. This saves time and reduces administrative work.
Outlook for the future
‘The Nagel Driver Terminal is an important step towards modernising our processes and making them more efficient. It shows how technological innovation both relieves our employees and improves the service for our drivers,’ adds Jens Kleiner, COO of Nagel-Group. After the initial tests at the Borgholzhausen site, the next deployment site is planned for Groß-Gerau. The aim is to further optimize the functionalities and then roll them out across the entire Nagel-Group. “I’m delighted with how quickly and easily the check-in now works,” reports Lutz Kauert, a professional driver at Nagel-Group.
The pilot project is being implemented in close cooperation with the consulting and software development company P3.
